The Shrikhand Mahadev trek is undoubtedly one of the most thrilling and challenging treks for adventure lovers all over the world. The highest point of the trek is located at an elevation of 18,570 feet in the Indian Himalayan range and consists of some of the most beautiful natural viewpoints along the way.

The base-camp of the Shrikhand Mahadev trek is located at Jaon Village. To reach Jaon Village, you have to drive down from the nearest railway station at Shimla towards Rampur and cross the Sutlej River to enter the Niramand region of the Kullu District and drive down to Jaon Village. During the Shrikhand Mahadev trek, you pass through picturesque villages and settlements such as Singhad Village and Thachru and stop at some of the most breathtaking natural attractions such as the Nayan Sarovar Lake.

The main attraction of the challenging and rewarding Shrikhand Mahadev trek is the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak. Here, you can witness the majestic beauty of a Shiv-Ling that is 75-feet tall and 46 feet thick. This massive Shiv-Ling depicts the face of Lord Shiva with eyes, nose and matted hair.

It is an incredible sight to behold in the final legs of your trek. The best time to trek to the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak is between the full moon day in July to the full moon day in August, when the weather is perfect to enjoy the beautiful route of the trek.

  • Day 1

    Jaon Village – Singhad Village

    Total Stretch: 4 kms

    The base-camp of the Shrikhand Mahadev Trek starts from the quaint village of Jaon in Nirmand taluka in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. This route runs parallel to a picturesque rivulet. This trekking route is easy to start off with, with the first day of trekking ending at the next village of Sighgad, which is 3 km away.

  • Day 2

    Singhad Vilage – Barhati Nala

    Total Stretch: 2.5 km

    The Shrikhand Mahadev Trekking takes off the next day from Singhad Village and cuts a steep walking path through lush green and dense forests leading to the Barhati Nala beside the Kurpan Khad. After a walk of 2.5 km, you will reach a small settlement town which is owned by a hermit by the name of Giri. The hermit serves free food and accommodation to all the trekkers and pilgrims in his “Langar Sthal”.

  • Day 3

    Barhati Nala – Thachru

    Total Stretch: 5 kms

    After setting out from Barhati Nala, the next stop is Thachru. Here you have to cross several steep paths with sharp turns through dense forests and reach a small open space with a temple. The locals here provide fresh food and stay options at a very reasonable price.  It is important to note that network signals are extremely weak in this area.

  • Day 4

    Thachru – Kali Ghati

    Total Stretch: 3 km

    After setting out from Thachru, you will reach a starting point called Danda Dhar. Here the path becomes steeper with sharp trenches as the jungle ends and the terrain is mostly covered with shrubs, bushes, big boulders and small peaks. Due to the absence of forests, the soil is quite loose and dry in this stretch.

  • Day 5

    Kali Ghati – Bheem Duari

    Total Stretch: 8 km

    Bheem Duari is the entry point to the next base-camp at Parvati Bagicha. Trekking is extremely enjoyable during this stretch as you will come across several cascading waterfalls and small hills through the undulating terrains.

  • Day 6

    Bheem Duari – Parvati Bagicha

    Total Stretch: 3 km

    The Parvati Bagicha is one of the most beautiful stretches you will come across during the Shrikhand Mahadev Trek, with an upright walk through the lush foliage, colorful wild mountain flowers, and several water streams. This is a halting point for the trek before reaching the Shrikhand Mahadev peak..

  • Day 7

    Parvati Bagicha- Nayan Sarovar

    Total Stretch: 3 km

    The Shrikhand Mahadev Trek route towards Nayan Sarovar is an inclined climb through a path scattered with huge rocks and beautiful wildflowers. You will cross a magnificent Alpine lake created from the melting waters from the surrounding glaciers..

  • Day 8

    Nayan Sarovar – Shrikhand Mahadev Peak

    Total Stretch: 5-6 kms

    After setting out from Nayan Sarovar, the trek route takes a left turn with mesmerising and a majestic view of the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak. Here, the slopes are steep and almost vertical with a few glaciers and a low oxygen level. This is the most difficult and challenging stretch in the entire trek-route.After you have successfully reached the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak, the next part consists of crossing the famous “Bheem Ki Sidhiyan” or “Stairs of Bheem” which is a trek route that takes you back to the base-camp at Jaon Village..
